For our music video, we had to consider an image that could be used as our artist’s symbol or signifier. As we are creating a casino theme for our video, we decided that we could create a roulette wheel design as our brand image, to be placed on our advert and digipack. Before we started to create this, we had a lesson on brand image and popular artist’s motifs they had for particular albums. We realised that there was a clear correlation between the albums band and the message they were portraying through their music and their brand image, for example sum 41 represented a punk, grunge style album so their designs and colour schemes were dark and edgy adhering to the stereotype of the genre. This makes the genre clearly recognisable to the target audience. We definitely found this lesson helpful for our own research into similar artist’s brand images. We also looked at our own artist, Brandon Flowers, and discovered that he had also used a glamorous, Vegas theme but kept his brand image subtle with a use of a diamond shape between his name on the album and advert. His image was consistent and was on all of his products making his music and brand image recognisable to the music industry. We feel this is a key element to be considered for our brand image, and this is why we have started to design the roulette wheel as it fits with the motif we have created for our video. Below is our final brand image design.
