Narrative Theory
Tododrov
His theory suggested that stories begin with an Equilibrium or status quo where any potentially opposing forces are in balance. This is Disrupted by some occurrence setting in change a series of events. Problems are solved so that a new order can be restored to the word of the fiction, Resolution. We have incorporated this theory into our work as we have included a relationship equilibrium which is them happy and content then a disruption occurs when a new man is introduced into the video causing conflicts in the relationship and the new equilibrium/resolution is the new relationship between the new man and the girl leaving the original man on his own. There is a clear lyrical connection between the relationship scenes. This really makes the narrative link to the song itself. By using this theory, it keeps the viewers interested by the constant change in events through the use of equilibrium's and disruptions.
Claude Levi-Strauss
His theory included Binary Opposites. This was a demonstration of contrast between two opposing mediums, such as; good-evil, past-present and life and death. We have included elements of opposition between two characters and their status that switches between each of them throughout the video. I feel this theory has really helped the development of the video and the use of a strong contrast really emphasises the difference between two characters or story's. By using this in our creative process, we think it will really make the video more interesting for the viewer and will produce a well balanced video.
